You need to find the right repair shop in the Connecticut area for damage to your car. Your insurance company has given you a list. Do you have to use one of the insurance company’s “Referral Shops”?

NO. Under Massachusetts Insurance Laws, you have the right to have your vehicle repaired by the auto body shop you want, as long as it is a “MA Registered Repair Shop.” Cloot’s Auto Body is Fully Insured, Registered, and Bonded with the State of Massachusetts. We guide and assist in dealing with your insurance company to get your vehicle back into pre-collision condition. Our collision techs do the needed repairs right the first time, to ensure you don’t have a long wait, and to take the stress out of dealing with insurance companies.

Your insurance company is required by law to negotiate the repairs with the shop of your choice, and it is the shop which must guarantee the repairs, NOT your insurance company. When an insurance company tells you to go to one of their “Referral Shops” on their list, or implies that if you don’t, “you could have problem with that shop”, or “it could end up costing you extra” they are blatantly breaking the law in a process that is called “steering.” If this should happen to you, let your repair shop know about it, and call the MA Attorney General’s office to file a complaint or online here: http://www.mass.gov/ago/consumer-resources/filing-a-complaint-with-the-attorney-generals.html
